VINTAGE WOODBLOCK STAMPS

In the late 19th century, These original and intricate woodblocks, inset with metal detailing, were used on cotton or linen cloth to create a very personal and unique motif or monogram on tablecloths, napkins and bedding. Once the maker had marked and stamped-out their design, using a blue water-based dye; colourful embroidery would then be applied to embellish the cloth making each piece personal to to it’s maker.

Our stock consists of flowers, swirls, swags and scollops and several elaborate alphabet monograms. They are genuine old pieces. stained with the indigo dye used to stamp the cloth.
