In Eastern traditions, the Hand-of-Fatima is associated with warding-off the evil eye. Households using this symbol on their front doors believed they would be protected from all evil. Door knockers of this design were used extensively throughout Spain during the Moorish occupation. Some of these cultural influences also penetrated into other parts of Europe.
